Plant Description
Cyrtomium fortunei is a foliage-rich fern and green evergreen foliage. This Holly Fern is an excellent choice for borders, containers, woodland-style planting, ground cover and screening, where it brings colour, texture and seasonal interest. It performs best in partial to full shade and rewards the right position with reliable garden performance.
Cyrtomium fortunei is grown primarily for its elegant fronds and calming, leafy presence, making it especially effective in shaded gardens and woodland planting. Its textural foliage contrasts beautifully with hostas, heucheras and other shade-loving plants. Reaching around 0.8m at maturity, it is best planted at the front of a border, in pots and containers and in woodland-style planting with partial to full shade. Its evergreen foliage ensures year-round presence in the garden. It is suitable for outdoor growing in most UK gardens. It performs best in clay or loam soils that remain well drained. It can also be a useful plant for beneficial insects.
