This Japanese Anemone is an excellent choice for borders, containers, woodland-style planting, ground cover and cut flower planting, where it brings colour, texture and seasonal interest. It is especially effective from summer into autumn, and performs best in sun or partial shade.

Anemone hyb. 'Andrea Atkinson' is low-maintenance once established and suits a wide range of garden styles, from traditional borders to more contemporary planting combinations. Reaching around 1m at maturity, it is best planted at the front of a border, in pots and containers and in woodland-style planting with sun or partial shade. As a deciduous plant, it brings a fresh flush of new growth each season. It is suitable for outdoor growing in most UK gardens. It performs best in clay or loam soils with moist conditions. It can also be a useful plant for bees and beneficial insects.

Planting & Aftercare

Choose a pot with drainage holes slightly larger than the nursery pot. Use well-draining potting mix. Place the plant at the same depth it was in the original pot. Water thoroughly after planting.
Water when the top 2-3cm of soil feels dry. In spring and summer, this is typically once a week. Reduce watering in autumn and winter. Always check the soil before watering to avoid overwatering.
Overwatering is the most common issue. Avoid placing in direct sunlight which can scorch leaves. Don't repot too frequently - most plants prefer to be slightly root-bound. Ensure good drainage to prevent root rot.
Feed with a balanced liquid fertiliser every 2-4 weeks during the growing season (spring to early autumn). Reduce or stop feeding in winter when growth naturally slows.
